1999 Other Kia Models KIA Pregio Shifting Problem

1999 Other Kia Models 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 180000 miles
The KIA Pregio only shift to second gear after a mile run on a cold start like in the morning from my garage. Then upon running for around 20 mi., when put on a complete stop it wont shift again to second gear. To have the tranny shift to the next gear, what i did is to release my foot on accelerator pedal and that's the time shifting to second gear is notice. Please help.
