Engine Cooling problem
1988 Other Jeep Models 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i have an 1988 cherokee lardeo 4x4 and i already bought a radiator and thermostat. it used to over heat but it doesnt do that anymore. the only problem im having is it smokes really bad i check to see if there was anything spitting out to the muffler thinking maybe a head gasket ut nothing spitting out. i drove it around for a good while didnt over heat just everytime i stopped smoke would come out of it like crazy it comes from under the jeep. can you help me out i have put over 700 in this and i cant figure it out yet!thanks

Hi there,

What colour is the smoke? white smoke from under the car could be a transmission cooler line leaking on the exhaust, check the trans oil level.

yes is i white smoke now whee would that line be located at?

Hi there,

look under the car and you will see two steel lines running from the transmission to the oil cooler, if they are leaking they will be dropping oil on the ground as well, Jeeps here in Aust have the lines on the R/H/ Side of the transmission, so i would be thinking that they will be the same for you, check this out, BTW they do have a problem with the plastic clips that hold the line into the transmission i have had to replace these before.
