1964 Jeep J300 engine problem

1964 Jeep J300 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 81000 miles
The truck has a 230 overhead cam, & has trouble starting, or when it does start will only run 15-20 sec. & stops for no reason. I have checked gas, spark, compression, choke, plugs etc. (ok), & was looking for any suggestion that might help. The engine turns over 0k but am thinking of a possible timing problem?
