Pcv solenoid

I own a 1983 Jeep CJ7 with a 6 cylinder 4.2 Liter engine

I recently tried to replace the PCV Solenoid mine was cracked. I could not find the part new anywhere so I bought a used part. Now the jeep won't start. It cranks but it will not catch. The PCV Solenoid is warm to the touch after I try to start the vehicle unfortunately I threw the old part away so I can't put it back in. Is there any way to know if the used part I bought is defective? Should the Jeep run without the PCV Solenoid? They don't make this part anymore and it is very difficult to find. I got the orignal part number from a Jeep dealership it is 33000722 if that helps.
