1983 Jeep CJ7 Ignition Coil Failure

Electrical problem
1983 Jeep CJ7 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 120K miles

Recently after driving my 1983 Jeep CJ7 for a while the Ignition Coil gets very hot and will quit working. The motor will run rough and bog down then die. It will not start again until the coil has cooled down. If I put a cold replacement coil in it will fire right up. What could be causing the coil to overheat? The engine temp gauge reads normal temp when this happens.

I have checked the + and - wires to the coil and they are hooked up correctly.

Thank You in advance for your help,

What is the battery voltage on the positive side of the coil also does it have a condenser/capacitor on it.
