HELP! Electrical problem

Hi,

I REALLY NEED HELP! I don't know where to start with the problem but here goes. Today, I took my 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport (inline 6 w/ 332,000km) for my lunch break. It started but ALL of the instrument gadgets would not function when the car was running (blower, radio, turn signals, wipers) and then so I shut off the engine and turn the ignition key to ON and everything worked again, so I started the engine once again and everything stopped working once again. I eventually drove home frustrated and COLD (December in Ontario Canada is very cold), but at every stop light I would try to start and shut off again and again and still the same.

I checked the fuses below in the driver's side, everything is fine nothing is blown.

Then going back to work, same deal, I would turn the ignition ON and everything worked, then I started the engine and everything shuts off. HOWEVER, suddenly (while the engine is running) everything suddenly turned back on, blower, signals, wipers, radio. So made it to work and before getting there I started to SMELL A BURNT ODOR, so I shut off the blower and I could still smell a distinct BURNING ODOR and suddenly while I parked the car (engine still running) all the instruments DIED OUT. So I tried shutting off the engine once again and turned the ignition key to 'ON' and NOTHING, started the car again and NOTHING.

I'm stumped, what should I be looking at, relay problem or bad grounds?

The only electrical thing I did recently was change the blower motor this weekend but that was plug and play. I have replace the blower motor resistor 2 times and it would blow out and return back to one speed so I opted to change the blower motor and the resistor once and for all.

Please, any kind of direction would be great, especially in this cold weather I gotta try to figure out if this is worth fixing or buying another used vehicle.

Thanks
Allan

Ok,

So it's definitely an ignition problem.

When I wiggle the ignition (while the engine is running) the blower, wipers. Go back on.

I was told it's the ignition lock cylinder. Does that make any sense? If so, is a DIY fairly easy or difficult? My vehicle doesn't have an airbag, but I'm guessing I would have to take out the steering wheel and somehow take out the ignition assembly?

Thanks
