2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee: The oil pressure gauge drops low when I am idling. When driving it shows normal pressure. There is no pinging or any other noise at low pressure. Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Thanx

Check both the oil sending unit and the oil pump. We will assume you have the proper oil level in engine.

I've owned alot of cars and trucks, both new and used, and have never had a oil pump go bad on me no matter how many miles I had on it. That doesn't mean that it can't happen though.

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee and the oil pressure gauge was off on mine too. However, I needed a new battery and during the disconnect and reconnect it must have reset my system because my oil gauge is now working like new.
