Major oil leak
Engine Performance problem
1995 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200500 miles
I just had the strangest thing to happen. I started my jeep as usual and all of a sudden the engin started making this loud thumping noise as if I had thrown a rod. I lift the hood and there is no white smoke an indication of a cracked block. I just changed the oil in the car three days earlier and had no problems until this morning. The oil is spraying from one side of the car looking like it comes from the engine block. I thought it could be the spark plugs but the oil leak is not from that side. My next best guess is the oil pressure sending unit. Can you tell me if I'm on the right track or if there is another problem that I'm missing?

Hi there,
The noise is a concern, i would wash the engine down and pull the coil lead off, top up the oil and just crank it a few seconds. see where the oil is coming from this way, i would hope that is is a sender, but the noise you report is a worry.
