1999 Jaguar XJ8 Fail safe/cruise control

Cruise control will not engage with switch in on position, it feels monintaryly to try to set then cancels. Also after driving several minutes the message center displays fail safe and cruise control switch will turn off. There are no check engine codes, engine runs fine, and all brake lamps work ok and vacuum leaks at throttle body. Also can I connect OBD 11 and drive vechicle untill fail safe warring appears on message center and then run code check and clear codes

I have run scanner and there are no codes, I did ask ican the obd11 scanner be connected and then start car and operate until fail safe appers on message center and then can I clear codes with engine running and not cause any problems ? Scanner manual says do not run with engine on.

Yes do not if all you have is a code reader. I was talking about a diagnostic scan tool. I recommend you take it in and have a Trained Tech diagnose there are many possible faults and via internet not able to solve.
