I JUST HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT ON MY XJ8. IT RUNS GREAT-UNTIL LAST NIGHT. WHEN I PARKED IN THERE WAS A LEAK ONTO THE ENGINE TOWARDS THE FRONT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. LIQUID( NOT OIL) LEAKED ON TO THE PAVEMENT LESS THAN A QUART. THIS MORNING THE TRANSMISSION FAULT LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR SHIFTS VERY RELUCTANTLY INTO FIRST AND VERY SLUGGISHLY IN TO SECOND. I AM HOPING ITS JUST A LEAK. AND ITS NOT THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANS MISSION NEVER SLIPPED AT ALL BEFORE. SLOW IS JUST LIGHT ON FUILD AND WHERE MIGHT THE LEAK BE?

Hi there,

If the fluid is red, this is transmission oil and I feel that it will be coming from a cooler line as these would have been removed during the engine work, check the transmission oil level and get this leak inspected ASAP as low trans oil will cause the trans to start slipping and expensive damage will occur.

Mark hit the nail right on the head. The folks that fixed the engine had a loose tube which they fixed. The car took 7 quarts of oil-I'm glad I had it towed.
