1987 Jaguar XJ6 Repair Question

1987 Jaguar XJ6 starter
Electrical problem
1987 Jaguar XJ6 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 185000 miles
replaced the starter with another and it started 4 or 5 times up on the jack. let it down and now does not start. i hear a metalic click and the starter spens but does no engage. what can i do to fix this problem. to me it sounds like the teeth are not lining up

start by checking the starter is bolted up securely .. and this is the correct starter ?
