I have 86 trooper II with a 4 cyl. And I am trying to adjust the lifters. Now I know how to get No. 1 TDC. What I can't figure out is how many times or what to do to check clearance on the others. It would be helpfull to find out the whole process from the point of checking No. 1. I have the clearance, I need the firing order and so on. I have callled all around my town and no one seems to know anything about these.

You have a two plane crank. No 1 tdc one full turn of the crank will put you on tdc no 4. Cylinder 2 and 3 are one full turn from each other also. The firing order can be found by marking the distributor housing at each spark plug wire then from tdc of no 1 remove the cap to see where the rotor is pointing when you turn the crank making shure you are going in the direction of engine rotation. The next mark on the dist housing you made wi be the next cylinder to fire and so on. It should be either 1-3-4-2 or 1-2-4-3 depending on the cam in the engine. Tdc of cyl 2 or 3 depending on firing order will be one half turn of the crank from tdc no 1.
