My driver side passenger door will not open from the inside or outside. I took off the inside door panel, and see that all the rods are working, but the lock mechanism seems not to be working correctly. Some of the parts don't move on that mechanism, and when I tried to put it in the opening position where it should unlatch, it doesn't. What should I do, I why don't want to take it to the dealer because they are charge me an arm and a leg. I know I can do it myself if I had directions on how to do so, plus I got a new lock latch mechanism for the door.

Thank you
JOHN

Hi John,

Latches have a return spring for returning a lever when the locking rods are unlocked. Quite often this spring breaks and the lever does not return the lever to the unlocked position.

Get a new lactch and note where the return spring is attached to and at the door latch, move the lever to the unlocked position and you should be able to unlock.

For some models the return spring is concealed and you would have to break the plastic housing inside the latch to release the lock.
