Isuzu Other Repair Question

RPM Problem
I recently moved to a new state and had a problem with my 2001 ISUZU RODEO. Background, it has 77,000 miles on it and is in great condition.
It started running very rough and I brought it in. The mechanic said I needed a tune up, new intake gaskets and the EGR Valve was cleaned. Total bill $500.00.
Now when I drive the car, my RPM reve before the car engages. So for example, when at a stop light and I floor it the RPM reves and the car is slow to respond. I am anxious about bringing it back into the same guy.
