Reading codes/DTC

91 Isuzu Rodeo LS v6 3.1 Litre 85.000km. Is there a way to check codes on this unit without using a code reader, like obd2. And if not will a obd2 work to get me the codes, even though it is only good for 1996 and up

I had a 92 Rodeo that I could make a jumper out of a paper clip, insert it in the connector terminals then read out the blinkk on the check engine light the sequence of blinks related to specific codes. I believe I had a Clymer repair manual that showed how to do the procedure and had a list of the codes/blinks.

If it has the Chevy style connector, the two you cross are side by side, with a cutout between them, cout the flashes 22 would flash as 2 blinks then a short pause then 2 more, For older carb models...
