Greetings: I've been doing my own oil changes on this vehicle since new (@ 9 miles). Normally I only use some inexpensive stuff from the local super market. This weekend however I purchased some top brand oil which claims can go for 5000 miles. But when I checked the oil dipstick when completing the oil change I noticed it felt gritty. To make sure it wasn't contaminated within the engine I checked the unused oil in the 5 qt jug (my engine only uses 4.7 qts) and IT TOO felt gritty. Is this normal? I'm used to it feeling very slippery. Is it additives in the oil? Or should I change it out immediately regardless?
Thanks,

Amigo

That grit is just detergent. Used in those five thousand mile oils, do not fear

Thanks legit! That makes sense, cause I've driven the car with it (oil) for about 3 months now and that grittiness seems to be going away (which would be explained by the detergency being reduced since then). Just glad its that and not actual dirt or dust. Sincerely, Amigo
