2009 Other Infiniti Models Ester Oils

2009 Other Infiniti Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 3500 miles
My Infiniti Dealer tells me that my 2009 G37 needs something called Ester Oil. He also says it isn't same as a full synthetic. What is the ester oil? Can I get away with putting Full Synthetic like Mobil 1 when changing the oil myself? How important is using genuine oil filter? is OEM filter ok?
