1993 Infiniti J30 leaking gas vapors

I bought this car a few months ago from a private owner and it has had a bad gas smell ever since day one. No visible gas leaks but we can't seem to figure out why the strong gas smell. It is very dangerous. Can someone please help me find out why.

Inspect the seal on gas tank and all rubber hoses coming fromfrom the tank and under hood leading to fuel rail

My husband said that the fuel tank which is located in my trunk is all metal. He doesn't see any rubber seal and all the hoses have already been checked. Any suggestions on what to do now?

The seal I'm talking about is on the tank were the gas lines and fuel pump go into the tank
