2002 Infiniti G20 Repair Question

2002 Infiniti G20 Shifter
Car shifter now sticks in Park. Need to fiddle with it a lot while press both the large and small buttons on the side of the shifter.
There is a little "keyhole" shaped opening near where the shifter goes into the floorbox. Does that do anything? Would WD40 help?

double check the brake light operation when its acting up, the shift interlock works through the brake light switch, if brake lights dont work it wont shift
