We have a 1998 Hyundai Tiburon with 122000 miles on it. I know the car need Motor Mounts. When the care is in Idle at a Stop sign or light while in drive. You here the engine very loudly inside the car. Almost like the muffler is bad. But if you are sitting out side of the car everything sounds normal. There is not a loud noise. What do you suggest I attempt first. I might add the car has been sitting for years without being moved or started.

First I would make sure the exhaust isn't hitting and vibrating on the frame. Next, have a helper start the engine and place it in drive. With the brake firmly applied, give the vehicle gas to see if there is excessive movement from the engine. Do it in both drive and reverse. If the engine moves more than say an inch, check the mount that is where the engine moves from.

Let me know what you find.

The Motor does have quite a bit of movement. I think the car need Mortor Mounts. The engine moved.

If it moved a good bit, the rubber part of the mount may be the problem. Take a look at them to see if they are out of shape, dry rotted.
