1999 Hyundai Sonata car surges then slows then check engine

Hello! When I am driving the car will all of a sudden surge once then loss power. Then the check engine light will come on. I am then able to drive normally. Only when I come to a stop, it is very difficult to accelerate. If I turn the car off, then it is back to normal for a while. What could the problem be. Thanks for your help.

Hi tammamc,

Since the check lights was indicating you should get a scan done to know what are the possible fault.

Without that, we would be looking for a needle in a haystack.
