Thermostat
Sooner or later yes you will damage something, the antifreeze will not get cooled in the radiator and it will overheat after a while and weaken the antifreeze. the thermostat keeps antifreeze in radiator when it reaches temperature the thermostat opens sending cooler antifreeze into engine block
