I recently removed the old cd player (which mysteriously quit working) from the dash and replaced it with a new Kenwood mp3 player and experienced some electrical issues that I am hoping someone can help me out with. First of all, I removed the old deck and cut the plug-in off and replaced it with the one for the kenwood that I purchased specifically for the KW deck. Following the wiring diagram, which was easy, I spliced in the new one without any issues and then plugged in the new deck. It worked without fail! I then replaced the two panels and re-tested everything only to find that a) the RW defrost button no longer worked, b) the dash lights no longer worked, and c) the passenger side tail light and front parking light no longer worked! Upon inspecting the fuses, I found that the light fuse had blown so I replaced it and it blew again! Apparently there was a short somewhere but where? I unplugged the deck, replaced the fuse and the lights on the dash and the outside lights worked. The switch to the RW defogger still does not work. When I push the button it lights up but will not click into place. What did I do? Again, I followed the instructions on the package to install the plug-in but apparently something is not right. Any ideas? Please help! Ron Mason

I wish people would learn. When you cut the wires on the old harness did you cut each wire singly? I doubt it. That is the beginning of the problems. I am talking to you and will never see the car but I know the problem originated in the area of the radio. Go back through your work and check connections, grounding of wires to ground or another wire. I believe there is a relay that you might have taken out for the rear window defogger. Don't forget to check fuses under the hood as well.

Yes I did cut them one at a time! Turns out after going to the harness website, there was a wiring diagram mistake where they had the illuminator wire shown to be connected to the wrong wire. A hot wire which shorted everything out. After carefully following their instructions again everything works. I almost sent a small donation, glad I didn't. These days you can be insulted for free! I'll never use this site again!
