I broke down earlier today, and what happened was the car lost power goin' uphill (i live in s.e. ky) and died. The engine had died a couple of times in the last couple days, but would finally turn back over. Not today it wouldn't though, and it ran the battery dead trying to start it. A friend looked at it earlier and said it could be the timing belt, but was wanting another opinion. thanx.

only vehicle we have, and need to get it back running.

take the oil filler cap off so you can see the valvetrain.Have someone crank the engine and see if it moves,if it does the belt isnt broken, although it could have skipped time

Here are some things to check: 1. Check to see if the timing belt/chain has failed, 2. Check for ignition spark at spark plugs, 3. Check for fuel pressure, 4. Scan P.C.M. (computer) for fault or error codes. The information should pinpoint the malfunctioning components.
