When I reach a slow cruising speed ( about 35 -45 mph ) my engine has a shutter noises and I notice that the revs on the tachometer very briefly surge up and then go back down. I do not get these noises while accelerating, nor do I get them at highway speed above 55 mph. Sometimes it sound like a wind hitting the front of my car hard. I do not notice a hesitation in speed or any change in driving. My passengers hear this noise and comment on it. Most time it will lessen if I step off the even pressure on the, but it returns when I even cruise. I tried my cruise control the other day and the noise still came. Sometimes it sound like a banging nosie as well and I am concerned that my engine is being damaged.

Ok lets see what we figure out here. Are you using the A/C or defrost when this happens?

I've tried it without the AC and defrost off seems to make no difference.

OK does this do it at idle where you could use a long screwdriver or an automotive stethiscope to listen to the engine and the alternator and other drivebelt acc. To try to find the noise?

No, it does not do it when idling. Only when holding steady speed between 45-50 mph.

Tell me how old are the spark plugs? How old is the fuel filter? Have you run a fuel additive like Seafoam through a tank of gas? Do you have a digital multi meter so we can check the TPS?

The spark plugs and fuel filter have 94000 miles on them. I haven't run seafoam in the fuel in a couple of years. And I do have a digital multi meter.

Ok first off a vehicle needs to be maintaned. You are close to being due for spark plugs so check them and overdue for a new fuel filter. Hopefully your timing belt has been replaced at that should have been done at 60,000. Let me know how the plugs look. The gap on the spark plugs should be about.040.
