Emissions

I own a 1992 Acura Integra LS with 180,000 miles,
5 speed manual trans.

The car still runs great except for 1 thing, I failed
inspection for NOx. All the other emission tests passed with flying colors. The CO & HC count were
excellent. The NJ State standard for NOx is 1088,
and my reading was 1318. I checked the VECI label
under the hood & it does not specify that my car has
an EGR system.

Some people think the Acura EGR Valve is no big deal. The Acura Integra EGR Valve is just there because the government says so and that Acura EGR Valve doesn’t really do much.

They sometimes ignore the Acura EGR Valve and even sometimes remove it. And they wonder why their vehicle doesn’t run the way it should. As with all cars, trucks, vans and SUVs, the Acura EGR Valve is housed on the intake manifold to permit a measured amount of exhaust gasses back into the engine.

This is a good thing as the Acura EGR Valve helps your vehicle meet emission testing standards and reduces knock. It is very important that you buy only the application specific Acura EGR Valve for your vehicle’s combination of engine, model and year.

One more thing, ignoring a faulty Acura EGR Valve can cause major problems. Remember, the Acura EGR Valve help keep fuel from detonating in the cylinder … exploding rather than quickly burning as it should. If not replaced a faulty Acura EGR Valve can quite literally cause hundreds if not thousands of dollars in damage and increase NOX in the exhaust.

I hope this helps Good Luck
