Honda CRV grinding noise when turning

2003 Honda CRV 4WD - Manual Transmission - 61,000 Miles.

When turning "sharply" left or right my CRV is making a grinding noise/vibration that appears to be coming from the front tire(s) area. It does this ONLY when the car is moving and at any speed. It is getting progressively worse over time. The noise is significantly less when turning sharp in reverse however but it is still noticeable. It does this whether the car is warmed up or cold, in gear or out of gear, applying the brakes or not. Power steering fluid level is fine.

The sound becomes evident when turning the wheel (right or left) about 80% to to it's limit. When the wheel is cranked all the way to it's limit it sounds awful.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Hello,

It sounds like the issue is with the CV axle.
When the CV axle gets worn or if it has a blown boot, it will allow dirt and debris in the joint and will make noise when you turn.
The CV axle can be replaced with using simple hand tools. You will have to raise the vehicle and secure it on jack stands to get started.

Here are couple of helpful articles:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
