94 del sol code 4 crank angle sensor (CKP)

My car gives me this code for the ckp, wich is inside the dist and controls the timing for the fuel injection and ignition on each cylinder.alsoit detects engine rpm. I thought the sensor was bad so i replaced the distributor itself. that didnt fix it. still getting the same code, and the engine rev limits itself at 4000rpm. im planning on changing the timing belt and completely retiming the entire engine. any other suggestions would be much appreciated

Nothing i have read such as manuals, books or diagnostics have pointed to any other sensor on the crank.
