I had the timing belt changed on my car and now the check engine light keeps coming on. I took it to the shop and they said its the valves and they turned off the light, they said its going to cost me around $2,000!!! Any suggestions? Is it time for a new car?

Hi pattipea14,

What was the trouble code retrieved?

Was the CEL showing before replacement of the timing belt?

If it is anything to do with the valves, they could be due to improper repairs carried out while replacing the timing belt and the shop concerned should be responsible for it.

You can get the codes retrieved at Autozone. they provide free scanning services. Let me know the exact trouble code and we shall see what is causing it.
