I drive a 1998 Honda Civic LX 130,000

My car has benn stalling out at low RPMS/coming to a stop. I was told the alternator was fine and had a tune up done all but the rotor and it seemed to improve. Now the car won't start unless jumped and then stops right away and won't start. I only get a small ticking sound when turning the key. The battery is four years old. What should could be probable problems?

In your case I would suspect the battery. I would start there. It may have gone over the wall and completely failed on you. Have it checked. Then make sure the cables are in good shape with clean connections. Now do we get the car to start and run or is there more needed. I might ask why you stopped at the rotor and didn't replace it?

I stripped the screw that is on the rotor while trying to change it myself so I was going to have it replaced my next oil change. I appreciate you reply about the battery. I'll have it checked along with cables and connections asap.

Make sure they don't tell you to replace the distributor because the screw won't come out. Any good mechanic worth his weight should be able to get that out with the tools they have available to them.

I put in a new battery and now it starts up and is driveable. When the car is started is revs too high - up to 1500 rpms and after putting it in gear will drive fine. When I come to a stop it revs to low - 200 rpm and will some time stall.
