Everything electrical dies (lights, ignition, radio.). Has only happened when the car is parked. It's fine when you turn it off, then it's dead. Battery replacement and terminal cleaning did not solve. Fiddling with ignition key and transmission shifter (automatic) restores power. I didn't think either of these would kill everything?

Everything that is activated with the switch on goes through it. I don't know enough from what you have provided, but it sounds like the ignition switch.

Thanks Bruce. I was confused by the headlights not working. Would a bad ignition switch kill the headlights?

Unless I am totally mistaken, power to the inside of the car goes through the switch. I could look that up if I had a way to do it. Soon, very soon.
