I had recently replaced my thermostat 4 months ago, then on a road trip to Arizona, it wouldn't stop over heating. It gave no faulty signs on the computer. when I came back to California, the problem stopped, until last week. It came back and I have to drive with my air conditioner blasting or it will overheat. It will claim it's overheating even when the heater is on. The gadge will quickly jump, and then once the air conditioner is blasting, it quickly falls. It only does this as I drive, so when I take it to a mechanic it will not do it immediately.
The battery is new too, just replaced in january this year.
I thought the air conditioner thing was something I could bare with until suddenly all of the electronics in the car will shut off, but the engine still runs. It would stop for the first two lights until I enter a freeway, when I can accelerate and the problem seems to cease, no matter how many stops I make on that trip. Prior to accelerating, the check engine light will come on, but once accelerated, it turns off.
Now that I feel like I drive a terrorized vechicle from the movie Speed, at 4k RPM, the car seems to choke (ie becomes jumpy when giving it gas). Not until it declerates to below 3.5k, it drives normal.
