2000 Honda Civic vtec on my d16y8 not engaging.

2000 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 95000 miles
Recently replaced my head gasket and now VTEC is not working, the enging had a lot of carbon build up on the pistons and valves so I cleaned everything. Cleaned the head with gasoline and carb cleaner and removed the whole vtec pressure switch/solenoid assembly and cleaned it out with carb cleaner too. Now vtec is only engaging once every maybe week. Please help.....oh i also replace the seloniod and pressure switch.
