Hi MicNB,

The power door lock fuse in # 51 ( 20 A) in underhood fuse box. The item likely to cause the problem would be the control unit, located at front of driver door, behind the door panel. Here is a guide to help test tit with the fuse location in the diagrams below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Electrical problem
1996 Honda Civic

the power lock and power windows dont work. When I check the wires there is power coming from them but when I check the control lock box some spots arent working. I think it might be the lock box but does that work for both?

Hi amtamr,

No, the power window control unit is in the master switch and the power door lock unit is separated.

Both uses different system power suply as the power works only with key on whereas the power locks works even with ignition off.

I have replaced the batteries in the lock control on the key chain and transmitter light comes on but nothing seams to work still. The locks open and close inside the vehicle with no problem using the door switch.

The car came with a honda security system. The original stereo was replaced with a sony disc player. Could they have diconnected the security and keyless control wires by mistake?

Thanks for your time.

The factory keyless was in the factory radio when they removed the radio they removed the keyless also. You have to extend the wires on the factory radio and install it under a seat. Or yau can have an aftermarket keyless installed for around 100 to 150 dollars I do this for a living so I am positive this is your problem

The passenger door on my Honda Civic will not lock with the key nor with the remonte. The key and remote will work with the other 3 doors. I am not sure if it is a mechanical or electrical problem. Does anyone know where to start and what it may be?

Hi hondahelp,

It most probably is electrical. When using the remote, check if the passensger door lock actuator is working. If a locking sound is heard, then it should be mechanical.

If it does not work, it is electrical and you need to test for power supply to and from door lock actuator. You need to remove the door trim to get at the door lock actuator. Applying battery voltage to the two wires and reversing the polarity would confirm if the actuator is faulty.

The remote door opener normally unlocks or locks all doors. It does not do that anymore. It unlocks or locks the drivers side door only. The same thing if I use the key. Also if I push the door lock tab on the drivers door the other tabs do not respond. This happened all at once.
Thank You
Gerry Samuel

Hi bgsamuel,

The door lock control unit is working to unlock the driver door so it most likely is ok. Check the wire harness between driver door and frame for broken connections.

Hi I am new here after visiting most of the website this webstie seemed to be the most friendliest and helpful of them all.

Anyways, I have a honda civic 1995, I have an aftermarket remote locking installed. When from out site I lock the doors I can hear a noise but only the front passenger side door locks the rest are still up and opened. An if I manualy lock them indvidualy then they will go down but only the one I try to lock how ever they should all go down as its central locking. And sometimes when I am driving I will hear the car keep trying to open and lock doors again only the front passenger side door locks or opens.

Can any one please tell me what could possbily wrong here. And if its replacing a part what is the parts name and can I repare this my self. Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated. Thanks every1 in adavnce. Looking forward in getting help from you people thanks :-

It sounds like a bad wiring job, I would get it checked by the people that installed the lock system, and get checked soon. If wiring came undone, or if there is a small short, the system would act like this. Did the car already have power lock, and u just added the remote? Or did the lock system include the electric motors for each door AND a remote?

Thanx alot for the reply :-)

Well I am not sure I bought the car second hand and it had a remote locking system installed in it already. I had been using it for 9 months it was fine so was the guy who had it before me he had been using it for 3years, but it started to happen all of a sudden. Could it be the actuator? And its an aftermarket car alarm system.

All my electric stuff on my passanger door don't work, the power window or power door lock. I have checked fuses and everything. I'm thinking about taking it to Honda if I can't figure it out.

Check if the switches are getting power and ground. If not, (if the fuses are fine) check the harness that goes from the underneath the dash to the door. This is a common place for wires to break.

Four cylinder front wheel drive automatic 69,000 miles.

I have read on your site where several people have had a problem with the power door locks stop working. Can you give me a direction on where to start to diagnose the problem or if you know the cause for me to start there? Is there a way to diagnose the door lock control?

Hi Acrock,

Before we are able to suggest what to do, we need to know your problem.

You should describe in details the symptoms etc.

The electic door locks just stopped working. I used a v/o meter to check the seitch on the driver door and it show the switch is working properly. Then I tried checking the door lock actuator on the driver side door there was only one position that the switch showed continuity. I do not know where to begin to check the door lock control unit that is in the driver door. It is a united technologies unit. I got a unit out of a 1992 Civic but it is a Mitsubishi unit and the electronics inside are completely different even though it uses the same plug for both units. I have even checked the fuse and it is fine.

Hi Acrock,

Is there any power supply to control unit?

Did you test the actuators?

I have tested the actuator switch in the driver door and it will show continuity when the switch is activated. As for power to the door lock control I have not checked that yet. It is hard for me to tell from the diagram which wire is the power wire. It seems to me that if a door actuator was bad it would short out and blow the fuse.
