I have a 96 Honda Accord LX V4 1, 20,000. Recently my radiator failed when I was on the highway due to the leackage of coolent that I did'nt noticed. Due to the heat the valve which connects to the engine burnt. I tried to pour some coolent in the radiator and after that I drove 1 mile to mechanic and found the white burnt content all over the radiator, I think due to the coolent I filled on heat.
After that I replaced that with the new radiator, Thermostat, and the valve, and worked fine for 4 days and after that the engine started to get over heat in no time after I start the car. I took that to the same mechanic thinking the new thermostat is having some problem. And the mechanic says it has something to do with the engine and he sais it costs me $1500 bugs. I was surprised by that amount.
So please help me what is the exact problem with the radiator and whom should I approach with this kind of issue? Please reply me. Thank you

You've got me scratching my head on the valve that would have been affected. What I would do is check the coolant level very closely. I would note how much you have to add to the cooling system.

I believe that the mechanic is pointing to the head gasket and possibly the head itself as what may also have been damaged. His estimate is very, very high. I would do the doctor thing and get a second opinion.

Also keep monitoring the fluid level. Then as well, check the coolant to see if there is any dark stuff in it. That could be oil. Note whether there is any coolant in the oil.

Pouring cold coolant from a jub into a hot basically dry engine can cause the block to crack. Keep that in mind.
