Burning oil

I have a 1999 Honda Accord EX with 143,000 miles. Recently it has begun to burn oil, about 2 quarts every 2500 miles. Once it gets to a certain level the "check engine" light comes on. When I add oil it will go off after I drive a few miles. How much is my wallet going to hurt to get this fixed?

In order to know how much it will cost to fix, you first have to why the car is burning oil. Before jumping to any conclusion, have the following three test done in order to determine the engine condition. A compression test, vacuum test, and spark plug analysis. This will give you a good picture as to the internal condition of the motor. If the rings are bad then the motor will have to be pulled and rebuild. If the values are the cause then the head(s)will need to be pulled in order to rebuild/replace them. Either way it is going to hurt alot, it's just a question of how much.
