When I push on the brake and try to put the car in gear the button sticks and will not allow me to put the car into gear. I have to push hard on the break, sometimes lightly, sometimes I give up and wait. Any ideas what the problem is?

Hi oubuckshot,

The intelock sdyatem prevents the gearshift from being shifted out of park when the brakes are not depressed.
In your case, the interlock system is not being informed that the brake pedal is depressed because there is some fault with the brake switch.

Check if the brake lights comes on when brake pedal is depressed. If it operates intermittently, then the switch is faulty and needs to be replaced.
