Air Conditioning problem

When I start my car my air conditioning works fine for about 5 to 10 minutes and then shuts off comletely. During this time the display panel is dead and the lights on the air conditioning control buttons are off. After about 5 or 10 minutes it comes back on by itself and in some cases the lights would be flashing and I have no control of the air conditioning. I can't control the air flow or anything. It does off and on throughout my trip. Any suggestions?
