Cold air from heater?

The heater in my honda has been blowing cold air. So I changed the thermostat, following my chilton manual instructions. I also made sure there was no obstructions in the hoses (and heater core) going to and from the heater core. My radiator fan kicks on as it should, so sensors should be good. Is there something Im missing with the blower fan, or is the water pump going out?

If it is a water pump problem, you should be having overheating issues. Did you check if the heater valve is operating correctly? Is the vacuum hose connections correct and are there any leakages? This guide can help us fix it.

Havent had any over heating problems. The heater valve is working correctly. Where would any vacuum hoses for this situation at? Ive tried all the buttons for the cables for the climate control. They're all working. The hose going to the heater core is hot, the return (?) Hose is cool to the touch. Ive made sure the heater core isn't clogged, (I pulled it out and connected a hose to blow through it) there are no leaks in the heater core. How would you recommend bleeding the coolant system of air? Thanks for your help and your input.

When engine is cold, remove radiator cap and checkcoolant level. If it is full, there is no air in system. If it is low, top it up, start engine with radiator cap off. Run engine for 5 minutes and top up if necessary.

Close radiator cap and run engine until fans comes on at least 2 times. Allow engine to cool and recheck coolant level.

The return hose being cold indicates coolant is not flowing. Did you check the hose to water passage for clogging?

Pull out the hose going to the heater core and use a water hose to connect to the heater core. If water comes out of the hose from engine, it is not clogged.

If uou had used air to blow through the heater core, it would not be accurate. Use a water hose to test. If the volume coming out is fast, then it is good. You can try back flushing the heater core. Apply the water hose to the return pipe from heater after taking off both hoses.

1993 Honda Accord Automatic

I have got a problem with the heater, at this present time the car only blows through cold air, I have changed the thermostat but this does not seem to have solved the problem. What else could this be, I was told the water pump may need flushing through but what pipe do you take off to do this, I hope your experts can help. Thanks mark

Water pump does not need flushing, it doesn't retain any antifreeze, it probably needs replacing.

Heater core on the hand does need flushing from time to time. Locate the two heater hoses going through the firewall into the passenger compartment. Most of the time they are two different sizes, so you won't mess up installing. Undo both hoses, and run water through one and out through the other.

Hi mzvanessa,

The blower fan motor is on its way out due to carbon brushes wearing off. Soon the motor would not start working anymore no matter how hard you bang the blower motor housing. A replacement of the motor is necessary to resolve the problem.

Yes, if you tell them what happens and needs to replace the blower fan motor, they would understand.

The book time for replacement of the motor is 2.3 hours if equipped with A/C.

If without A/C, the book time is 1.3 hours.

Our database does not have any listing of the part price so I am not able to let you know.

Labor time and parts prices varies region to region so it is best to get a quote from local shops. Ask around and you should be able to get an idea what it would cost.

Hi Sauri

What is the outside temperature?

If very cold it may be freezing rain

otherwise it may be the air con is overwhelmed, especially if several passengers who may all be wet.

Turn off the a/c select outside air select windscreen and wind the window down a little

Regards

Heater problem
1992 Honda Accord 300000 miles

The heater absolutely does not work. It worked yesterday when I shut the car off. This morning, I warmed it up for 10 minutes before I drove it. The temp gauge (for the engine) shows my engine has warmed up but there is no heat coming out.

Does the fan blow air or is the air just cold? Might want to look under the hood on the heater hoses, there should be a valve that lets hot air in the car, might have a cable problem or just be broken

Find the thermostat-replace it and check the heater hoses and core if its clogged-up. Coolant level filled.

Make sure sure the water pump is pumping that coolant through out the engine. Also could be a clogged radiator.
