Oil filter adapter gasket leak

Im trying to fix a Gasket that leaks

it goes between the oil pump adapter housing, and the block

my issue is that ive tried referencing from online forums, but I cant seem to peel it apart far enough to get the gasket out

everyone said there is 3 bolts holding it

ive found the one behind the crank pulley and loosened it ( 12mm )

one slightly above and to the left
( 10 mm )

and another above and to the left of that one, ( 12mm )

now i've loosened them all and I cant get any clearance to pick the gasket out

so I believe that I loosened the wrong bolts

does anyone have a diagram they can send me
I would really appreciate it..

im attempting to tackle this again tomorrow

I am trying to replace the oil filter housing o-ring.3 bolts got 2 out but the one behind oil sending unit is impossible how do I (novice)get the sending unit out need your expertise.

I used a socket to get2 of 3 bolts on oil filter housing unit.I have to remove oil sending unit tried vice grips channel locks. No luck. Third bolt on oil filter housing unit is directly behind sending unit. Help

Thee is a socket for the oil light type of pressure sending units. You might try some penetrating oil, but try getting a small wire brush to get all the crap around it out first.

Almost 200,000 miles. Oil leakes rapidly from below the oil filter only when the car is running and causes thick smoke while driving. We were told to buy a new Oil Filter Housing unit, but we cant seem to find one of these available that is fit for a 1990 Honda Accord. Was it called something else? Could this be a different issue?

They must be telling you that the part is cracked. I believe there is a gasket between the housing and the block. Get under and see if it is the housing itself or the gasket. I have that same car I am junking out if you can't find the part I can be forced to sell it cheap. There are three possibles to the problem, the gasket, a crack in the housing, or a bad gasket on the oil filter.

The smoke is understandable as the oil can drip right down on to the exhaust system. Fix it soon.

Engine Mechanical problem
1990 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have an oil leak. If I crawl under the engine and look up at the oil filter there is a pipe above the filter that runs perpendicular to the filter and it looks like it goes into the housing on the front of the engine. That pipe seams to be the start of the oil leak. What might that mean for me?

Hi bandjrobertson,

I don't think that is the cause. It is the water passage from the thermostat to the water pump.

From the oil filter there are 2 possible areas that might leak.

1. Oil cooler base O ring. When vehicle is moving, the air moving around would splash the oil onto the pipe. The O ring tends to leak for the age of your engine. You would have to remove the oil filter and the base to replace it. The coolany bypass hose might have to be replaced as well.
2. Valve cover gasket. When it leaks from the top, it would drop down onto the pipe and seems as if the pipe is leaking.
