I have a 1989 jeep cherokee it starts but when you shut it off it won't start back up inless i let it sit for about 1,2 hours then it starts up runs fine.

Sounds like a possible ignition module.

You can use a hair drier and get it hot when the truck is cold and see if it affects it.

There is a wide variety of possiblilites.

You need to find out what is missing, fuel or spark when the problem is happening is the best way.
