1999 GMC Safari Theft deterrent system disabling

1999 GMC Safari 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 223000 miles
My 99 Safari will only run for 1 second before dying. I was told that it could be the theft deterrent system could be culprit. i would like to disable it completely so that the problem doesn't happen again. Any information would be helpful.
