Engine Performance problem
1985 GMC Safari 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When I start the van, oil pressure is normal according to the gauge, it always sits about half way.

When the engine is hot after driving for a while, I stop at an intersection, parking spot and the gauge goes all the way down to zero and usually will stall. There's no ticking or racket comming from the engine at any time.

When I put my foot on the gas or keep it on the gas is doesn't go down. If the van does stall, once it's started again the oil pressure goes back up. What's causing the gauge to go to 0?

It sounds like a failing oil pump. When you loose oil pressure, the oil pressure sending unit shuts off the engine to protect it from damage. You should change the oil pump.
