1987 GMC S15

It has 206xxxKm maual transmission 2.5 4cyclinder. The problem is when i put the clutch in to come to a stop it always wants to die and sometimes it will idle back up. I had the plugs changed and air filter. How can i test to see if there's a problem? Thanks.
