my truck is a diesel what grade or weight of oil should I use? No owners manual in truck

I prefer a good 15w40 oil, Shell Rotella is one, and maybe a 10w30 for colder climates. I'm sure some will disagree, but it's personal preference. When I lived in N.Y. That's what I used in my diesel Caddy. Mickey-d
