Models engine dies when headlights are turned

1989 Other GMC Models V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles
I own a 1989 GMC Vandura. 5.7 litre / V-8 engine. I recently had work done on the van. Soon after the problem started. The van was running fine. Then I turned on the headlights and the engine died. Turn off the headlights it starts right up. I realize there has to be a short somewhere. Can you help me figure out the easy way to find it? There is so much wiring and I don't know where to start. I don't want to damage anything else while I'm trying to locate the problem. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
