I have a 1987 gmc vandura. It has 2714112 km on it. I dont know the engine size as it is my husbands van.
the van starts great, cold or hot outside. Recently however it has started to smoke, white smoke from under the engine. And a smell like hot melting plastic kinda? We have checked for oil leaks. It does leak a small amount of oil, but only after it has been running. Last night trying to drive a couple km down the road it started to smoke quit alot so my husband turned the van around to come home and the engine light came on. The van is now parked. The engine however sounded fine. My question is: is this an easy repair or will we have to start looking for a new vehicle?
we just recently bought the van second hand it was used as a town taxi van, so for short drives here to there. And then it was parked for a year or so til we bought it. Could it sitting through a winter unrun have done something we nor the mechanic we had it into didnt see before?
thank you so much for your time I appreciate every little peice of information i/ we can get.

You will need to find out were the smoke is comming from, but white smoke. Maybe steam? Check the radiator and heater hoses. It's probably due for a complete new set! Open R$adiator, any antifreeze left? If not grab a screwdriver and the purse, get the new hoses and 2 gallons of antifreeze!
The screwdriver is for putting the new ones on! Don't forget the new clamps!
