2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD w/6.6L Duramax and 5-spd Allison AutoTrans. 16,300 miles. I have noticed recently that while stopped at a traffic light, the engine will stumble slightly and produce a thick white/blue smoke out of the exhaust pipe. It will do this for at least 20-30 seconds until I start to drive away, then it stops. It usually happens within 5-15 minutes after startup, engine at normal operating temp, and not weather dependent. Just replaced fuel filter; no change in condition. Truck runs great otherwise. Is this fuel injector problem? Please help.

Also, is 14-15 mpg typical for city driving (no load)?

Retarded timing will cause white smoke at idle.

1. Check timing

2. If pump is equipped with mechanical light load advance, check for sticky or stuck advance mechanism (internal timing) by depressing the rocker level on the side of the injection pump with engine at 2000 rpm. If the engine sound does not change, the pump should be removed and serviced by a professional.

#2 is from a GM - Ford repair manual. I'm not familair with your 6.6 and so I'm not sure if it does apply to your pump or not. Your going to have to find that out.
