LOW VOLTAGE TO FUEL PUMP

1991 GMC C2500

Electrical problem
1991 GMC C2500 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 175000 miles

TRUCK IS A 1991 GMC 6.2 DIESEL PICK-UP. FUEL PUMP IS 4 MONTHS OLD. VEHICLE JUST QUIT. VOLTAGE TO PUMP READS 0.25 VOLTS. REPAIR MANUEL SAYS THAT THE PUMP NEEDS ANY WHERE FROM 8-24 VOLTS TO OPERATE. PUMP RUNS FINE WHEN DIRECT WIRED TO THE BATTERY (FOR TESTING PURPOSES). AT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION FOR THE PUMP ONE WIRE GOES TO THE FRONT AND ONE WIRE GOES TO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. MY SUSPICION IS THAT THE WIRE THAT GOES TO THE BACK IS A GROUND TO THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND THIS MAY/IS THE PROBLEM? WHAT DO YOU THINK? THANKS LOWELLT THIS IS AN INLINE FUEL PUMP.
