1985 GMC C2500 V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual

why would the fuel pump bend and not send fuel to the carburator? We just completely overhauled a shortblock 350c.i. motor. It is bored out .30 over. Engine cranks but will not receive fuel b/c the fuel pump rod is bending.
